Just when we thought spring was around the corner, in comes the snow. This shouldn’t come as a surprise (we’re in Utah, after all), but the cold weather still seems like a disappointment. As I watched the snow fall today, I began to crave a staycation spent hunkered down, warm and cozy. In true fashion, Anniversary Inn can deliver just that.
As indicated in our title, the Anniversary Inn usually attracts couples wanting to celebrate their anniversary. Well, this couple decided to venture outside the box and spend the first night of their honeymoon with us at the Anniversary Inn on 5th South in the Presidential Suite, a perfect choice for their first night together as husband and wife.
Personally, I can’t think of a better suite for honeymooners. The decor is cozy and classy, the jacuzzi tub is built comfortably for two, and the view…aw, the view! With your own personal balcony overlooking the Salt Lake City skyline, this suite cannot be beat. But, don’t take my word for it. Annie and Trent English had a ball. Here is Annie’s take on the experience: Continue reading
You’ve spend all week cleaning the home and preparing a Thanksgiving feast for family and friends. Thanksgiving day arrives and you spend it eating, talking, reminiscing, and napping. And then…Friday rolls around – you still have the entire weekend! What to do? Thanksgiving weekend provides the perfect opportunity for you and your sweetheart to get away for a night, after the business of Thanksgiving subsides and before the chaos of December begins. All four Anniversary Inn locations provide the perfect one-night getaway. I have a few non-themed suites I’d like to recommend. Though these suites are not as ornately decorated or as adventurous as some of our other suites, after a week like this one, “low-key” may be right up your alley. Continue reading
Salt Lake Valley, with its rising mountains, has plenty to offer by way of picturesque views. So, why not take full advantage of the surrounding beauty and theme this year’s anniversary around enjoying a panoramic view of Salt Lake City?!
A staycation is defined as: “a vacation (…) spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.” Ultimately, a staycation is an affordable way to vacation as it allows you to experience the sensations of being on vacation – relaxing, adventuring, etc. – without requiring the bill that usually comes along with it. Added bonus? Staycations encourage you to explore the city you live in, to see it with new eyes. So what’s stopping you? After reading the itinerary below, you will have no reason to hesitate.
Hike Bridal Veil Falls:
Start out the morning early (don’t worry, you’ll have time to relax later) and head down to Provo, Utah. Get off on the 800 North Exit (Exit 272) in Orem and head west. Drive for about 4 miles and you will see signs indicating the direction for Provo Canyon. Bridal Veils Park is located about 3.5 miles up the canyon with plenty of parking. Take a short walk down the Provo River Parkway from the park to find the base of the trail to Bridal Veil Falls. Take the short but steep hike to the base of the falls and be rewarded with a beautiful view of the cascading falls accompanied by a refreshing mist to cool you off after the climb. If you are an experienced hiker, continue on to the top of the falls. Beware, the climb is very steep and should only be attempted if you are an advanced hiker. My most important piece of advice is to arrive early. This hike is very popular and tends to get crowded throughout the day. If you want to explore the surrounding area, go for it! You can find more details and the history of Bridal Veils here. Planning your staycation during wintertime? No problem, the veils create a beautiful ice sculpture that is worth seeing (or climbing if you are experienced in ice climbing).
Dine at Pizzeria 712:
After your hike, you are bound to be famished! Bringing a picnic is always an option, but remember, you’re on STAYCATION! This means you should spend time out, enjoying the local area. I recommend checking out Pizzeria 712. Pizzeria 712 is a local gem to say the least. The chefs use only locally grown, seasonal ingredients to make their pizza creations which are placed in a classic, wood-burning stove, cooked to perfection. The crust will change your life.
The atmosphere at Pizzeria 712 is casual – you can even observe your pizza being made while chatting with the chefs! They are open for lunch from 11:30-2:30 (a perfect window for your post-hike lunch) and dinner from 5:00-11:00. Check out their lunch and dinner menus. Their pizzas are reasonably priced, so order a few and share them amongst your group so everyone gets to try a taste of something original. If it’s just the two of you, order a salad and two pizzas and you will leave happy. Pizzeria 712 has received numerous accolades throughout Utah and the country (see more reviews here), so come see what all the buzz is about!
Relax the afternoon away:
This is an important part of the staycation – relax! You woke up early to hike, ate a hefty, well-deserved lunch, and now you’re ready for a nap. So indulge already! You would if you were on vacation, so this weekend should be no different. After a relaxing afternoon spent napping, or reading, or watching your favorite TV show, get spruced up for a night on the town. Pick your favorite Salt Lake City Restaurant (think Em’s Restaurant for a romantic evening or the Rio Grande Cafe for a family outing) and head out on the town.
Now, this is the point where you send the kids home (if you haven’t done so already) and spend a romantic evening together at the Anniversary Inn. What better place to spend the remaining hours of your staycation than at the Bridal Veil Falls Suite at our 5th South location?
Enjoy a movie together or take a tub in our jetted jacuzzi to soothe your sore hiking muscles. Or, better yet, just lay in bed enjoying the painted murals of Bridal Veil Falls and reminisce about the day over a piece of complimentary cheesecake accompanied by sparkling apple cider. Most of all, enjoy the evening, you’ve earned it!
The best part about this particular staycation is that it can be catered to a family or couple. If you and your sweetheart want to bring the kiddos along for the hike and pizzeria, then pair off for a romantic evening, it is totally feasible. If you want the entire day to yourselves, the itinerary is equally enjoyable if planned for a duo. So get out! Go explore the local gems like Bridal Veil Falls and Pizzeria 712! And, don’t forget, Anniversary Inn has locations on South Temple and 5th South in Salt Lake as well as locations in Logan and Boise. Book today!
July brings with it numerous celebrations, including Utah’s Pioneer Day, the 24th of July. On this day, we commemorate the birth of this beautiful state and honor those who founded it. Due to the occasion, “This Is The Place” State Park hosts numerous activities for all to enjoy. Whether you celebrate your anniversary in July or are just looking for a staycation, the State Park and Anniversary Inn have you covered.
Though “This Is The Place” State Park is usually a family destination, that doesn’t mean couples can’t join in on the fun. Typically, anniversaries consist of a romantic dinner and maybe a movie. Mix things up and take your sweetie to the Park to discover what it has to offer.
True to its heritage as an old pioneer town, the Park features original 19th century buildings and homes that have been relocated for preservation purposes. Barns, cabins, stores, half-way houses – it’s all there, rich in history, to explore and enjoy. The park also hosts numerous celebrations throughout the year, especially in July. On July 4th, the Park will celebrate “Liberty Days” and on July 24th, they will celebrate “Pioneer Days.” Both celebrations feature summer food, races, pony rides, reenactments, craft projects, and games. Does riding a pony or participating in a three-legged race seem childish? So what! Join the fun for a memorable anniversary.
Celebrating your anniversary would not be complete without a romantic place to stay. Following the theme of Utah heritage, book a night at the Anniversary Inn on 5th South in Salt Lake City and reserve the Wild West Suite. Cuddle next to your honey and enjoy watching a movie in the back of an old covered wagon (don’t worry, the bed is modern). Relax even further by “walking into town” through the saloon-style porch and doors to find a luxurious jetted tub. With decor true to its name, this suite will take you back in time without leaving the comfort of the present-day luxuries.
So grab your sweetheart and make this year’s anniversary one to remember. Make the most of Utah’s July festivities and let Anniversary Inn do the rest.
