Neither had I, until my sister married her sweetheart just a few weeks ago.
Wanting to stay in line with tradition, my sister’s fiance didn’t want to see her in her wedding dress until the day they were married. Then, they realized that the “First Look” moment – the moment in which a groom see’s his bride in her dress for the first time – was so precious and so fleeting, they wanted to capture it on film.
A few days before the wedding, my sister and her fiance drove to the Utah State Capitol building where Elsa Jensen (a dear friend) could capture their moment on film. Here it is.

I must say, it is a treasure. Their “First Look” moment is intimate and tender. I know they will watch it over and over again. I’ve watched it myself a dozen times now!
Have you ever considered creating a “First Look” video? If this kind of a keepsake is up your alley, contact Elsa Jensen, she did a magnificent job!

2014 was a great year at Anniversary Inn. Here on the blog, I explored our different suites while also providing you, our reader, with suggestions on how to further explore Logan, Boise, and Salt Lake City. Whether you are celebrating your anniversary, trying to plan a staycation weekend, or just enjoy reading proposal stories, II hope this blog has been a resource for you.
As we start the new year, I’d like to welcome suggestions from you! What do you want to read about? Which areas of anniversary and staycation planning would you like to see further discussed? If you have ideas or suggestions or would like your proposal story published here, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Remember, those who submit their proposal story are eligible for a drawing for a free night’s stay at any one of our Anniversary Inn locations.
The temperatures have cooled and the lights are up; it’s officially Christmastime! The holiday season is my favorite part of the year, especially in a place like Salt Lake City where the city provides you with countless ways to celebrate Christmas. Traveling during the holidays is hectic and stressful. Why not plan a staycation right here in Salt lake City to make the holiday season special? And you don’t even have to take a flight! (for definition of “staycation” see here)
A favorite pastime of mine (and of about a million other locals and visitors) is visiting the lights at Temple Square downtown (click here for the 2014 lights and concert series). Located at the center of the city (literally), Temple Square is great place to visit year round, but during the holidays, it is a real sight to behold. Trees are strewn with lights, candles float atop the reflecting pond, and lights flicker in beautiful decorated paper bags that align the walk ways. In the true Christmas spirit, Temple Square also hosts multiple nativity scenes. Some are traditional and others feature characters from different cultures (Asia, Africa, Pacific Islands, etc.). The entire square is a Christmas spectacle. Visiting Temple Square during Christmastime feels special, like you are visiting another city – the perfect staycation activity.
After visiting “the lights” (as locals call them), reserve a night at the Anniversary Inn on South Temple, just a short distance from Temple Square. During this season, I recommend the Hay Loft Suite. This suite is the definition of cozy. Soak in a tub made for two and relax any holiday stress away. Then, snuggle close to your sweetheart under a pitched roof and enjoy a glass of sparkling apple cider while watching your favorite Christmas classic on the big screen. As always, the stay includes cheesecake and breakfast.
What an incredibly romantic and special evening, and you didn’t even need to leave home! Call Anniversary Inn and book your staycation today!
If the Hayloft Suite is booked, consider the Mountain Hideaway Suite – another incredibly cozy retreat.
Other Temple Square events can be seen here.
December is here! Even with all of the business of the holidays, December is great month to propose. Winter presents incredibly romantic elements: the snow, the lights, the quiet – it all just screams, “Pop the question!” If this is your time to propose, here are a few ideas that will help you capitalize on the season and all it brings. You’ve spend all week cleaning the home and preparing a Thanksgiving feast for family and friends. Thanksgiving day arrives and you spend it eating, talking, reminiscing, and napping. And then…Friday rolls around – you still have the entire weekend! What to do? Thanksgiving weekend provides the perfect opportunity for you and your sweetheart to get away for a night, after the business of Thanksgiving subsides and before the chaos of December begins. All four Anniversary Inn locations provide the perfect one-night getaway. I have a few non-themed suites I’d like to recommend. Though these suites are not as ornately decorated or as adventurous as some of our other suites, after a week like this one, “low-key” may be right up your alley. Continue reading
